What Is The Scope of Practice For Massage Therapy?

​

According to the Massage Therapy Act, 1991, massage therapy is described as “assessment of the soft tissue and joints of the body and the treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction and pain of the soft tissue and joints by manipulation to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function, or relieve pain.”

What Is Massage Therapy?

​

The Registered Massage Therapists’ Association of Ontario describes massage therapy as “the manipulation of soft tissues of the body including muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints.”

 

Is Massage Covered By Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP)?

​

No, massage therapy is not covered under OHIP.  Good news, many extended healthcare plans will cover massage therapy (entirely or a portion of) when performed by a Registered Massage Therapist.

Do I Need A Referral By A Professional To See Lori-Anne Davis, RMT?

​

No, you do not need a referral to see me. 

​

If you have insurance and want to use your massage benefits, it is best to check with your insurance carrier.  Some insurance companies require a referral/prescription by a professional in order to gain coverage under your plan. 

​

Can Lori-Anne Davis, RMT Bill My Insurance Directly?

​

Yes, I can.  I use four different insurance platforms, that support several different insurance carriers.  If you have any questions, please ask. I can help guide you with your insurance to ensure that it is one of the companies that I can submit to.

​

If your insurance does not send payment to me or there is a co-payment (portion not covered by insurance), you will be required to pay this amount at the time of your treatment.
